Nude protesting must be legal - Freedom for Alexandr Volodarsky!- Anti-censorship activist faces four years of prison for peaceful protest
The "Aktionskomitee Nudistische Offensive" (Committee of Action - Nudistic Offensive), the "Sektion Sonne und Solidarität" (Section Sun and Solidarity) and the "Sektion Zensurama" (Section Censorship) and the Hamburg Section hereby declare: On November 2nd 2009 the Ukrainian blogger, opposer of censorship and performance artist Alexandr Volodarsky was arrested for protesting nude in front of the house of parliament in Kiev against growing measures of censorship of the Eastern European country. The department of public prosecution charges Volodarsky with violation of the public peace for his political motivated protest. For his peaceful protest he is now facing four years of imprisonment. During the first days in custody he is denied in his right to an attorney. After six weeks Volodarsky is released from custody on bail. On January 7th 2010 the court of law admits to violations and flaws during the investigation. Volodarsky appeals to the court and loses. The proceedings continue on April 7th. Henrike Tiedemann from the committee of support, Hedonist International: "We are ashamed by the fact that peaceful protesters in the Ukraine are threatened with unspeakable penalties. There are efforts made by the Ukraine to join the European Union - by ignoring the duties of a constitutional democracy we see this possibility in a very distant future." The Committee of Support requests from the people responsible in the Ukraine to withdraw the charges of violation of the public peace and to grant Alexandr Volodarsky a fair trail. Henrike Tiedemann, further: "We are planning protests against these violations of Human Rights. Peaceful protest - may it be nude or not - must be possible, being in accordance with the constitution of the Ukraine." Weitere Informationen:
