We build a mobile soundsystem

Building a mobile soundsystem

Components:

a mobile soundsystem is made out of several components, which should match to each other in the end. So the best way is to begin with one of them (some of them you may have already) and build the others arround it. ( This is to ensure that the amp matches to the speakers and the whole thing fits to your 'horse')

'Horse'

The horse is the base of your soundsystem where you store all the equipment on. It should be rugged and at least have one wheel. Readymade horses handtrucks, wheelchairs, babybuggys, bike trailer, barrows or whatever. After some disadvantages i would suggest you to get an already done horse rather to build one on your one. And wheelchairs have been proven to be the best horses, since they can be easily moved through the city.

Amp

We need a car amp (12V). Bums soundsystem amps mostly have 4 channel and 100 Watts RMS per channel. It is important to have a look at the RMS (sinus) power, cause of the mostly faked maxpower designation. It doesn't have to be high-end, only a Line-Out is important to wire up other soundsystems in a row. (Line-Out-Line-In-Line-Out-Line-In…)

Speaker

Together with an 4x100W(RMS) Amp bums proofed following combination: a highrange/midrange speakerset with 100W RMS (McCrypt BB 802 II are favoured for being cheap, kind of unbreakable but nevertheless have a good soundquality). And a fat bass! This could be a Bassroll or a chassis (speaker only) which you build into to your horse yourself. If you buy a speaker togehter with a box you will save time and nervs and the soundqualitiy is better, too. The Bass should have 200 W RMS, cause it is connected to 2 bridged channels. Pay attention to the ohm spezifikation of amp and speakers it have to match!

Battery

We strongly reccommend to invest in a good AGM car battery, since this kind of batteries are non leaking.
They should have at least 70 Ah, the more the better.

Player

Most people have a MP3 Player / FM Radio no more to say :)

Cables

amp to battery

The powercord. A red and a black one with isolated batteryclips at one end would be best. the red one gets a fuse build in in the middle. 8 Ampere car spezifikation is perfect, one can buy them readymade. (don't forget to connect minus at first, followed by plus , at disconnection in reverse plus - minus). The other end of the black wire is connected to ground or ' - ' the red one to +12V and a then in a loop to REM or remote this is for simulating a head unit (car-radio).

amp to player

we need 2 2-1 RCA jack (cinch) cables for the amp line-in and one RCA to TRS jack cable for the mp3 device earphone jack.

amp to speaker

normal speaker wires should do, keep them short to avoid cable spaghetti. How to bridge channel 3 and 4 to one channel should be printed on the amp.

For a mobil soundsystems like Diensdach Middach/ Räuber Hotzenplotz/ Ronja Räubertochter you'll spend around 250-300 euro. So it is recommended to build one in a team, it's more fun anyway. Developing a 2 channel mobile system with a smaller battery for little money is also possible. We probed the limits already, actually one can't get Räuber Hotzenplotz upstairs alone, so we are interested in smaller and sophisticated soundsystems.
